Worth knowing
Fridges need the refrigerant recovered
Refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers all contain refrigerant, and federal rules require that refrigerant to be properly recovered before the unit is scrapped rather than vented to atmosphere.
It matters to you because the appliance leaves in somebody else's trailer. If it ends up dumped or stripped improperly, the trail leads back to the address it came from.
The same logic applies to electronics: screens in particular are regulated in most states and are the item most often quietly landfilled. A company that lists e-waste recycling separately has at least thought about it, and it is worth asking where it goes.
